Finally Grayscale thought a good concept for EvE.
Now, if only the planned execution was not so rich of downsides...
The "let newbies come to Dekelein" is easy to fix: young clones suffer less from fatigues so they can have a reduction in timers (of course people shall exploit this, and then they'll have to create account wide cooldowns, but still...).
Many arguments are only apparently valid. In example, "we can't hit and run / ninja mine etc. any more". Yes, you'll have to set base closer to the risk and not sit in hi / low sec and then flip a switch to hit anywhere.
Also, wormholes will get a much bigger role due to their natural shortcut feature.
What I don't get are the timers, cooldowns and whatever. In 5 years, EvE will need a 2nd monitor just to show all the timers affecting a player. It sounds like a flawed implementation for a good concept. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

This is the one day I agreed and liked a Greyscale post . The universe as we know it is shortly coming to an end!
You know what, I am *almost* getting motivated to join my PvP corp again.
Back at the time, escorting 6-7 freighters with 50/70 ships through low and null was one of the biggest pew pew catalysts EVER.
Might make blobbers shiver but small and medium scale PvP could reborn! Finally!!!! Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

It will.
FAST IN WARP NANO REMOTE REP CARRIER Convoys. Convoys chocked full of supplies yet unbreakable except for with super caps that the 'little alliances' don't have., WAY safer than the freighter convoys of the past (freighters can't remote rep each others or refit off each other(. Who needs an escort when you can have one guy triage and the rest drop fighter after fighter, sentry after sentry?
We gonna emergent all over your gameplay :)
Is this riskier than just jumping like a frog all around the place (at downtime ofc) and nobody can even take a peek?
If yes, then it's better. If not enough, just nerf the hell of it till it becomes. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

That kind of logistics is not possible without the use of jump freighters and making it so you have to spend 4x the time moving things is just going to make people quit. Not to mention the effects on the economy.
For years we have read Goons saying they were different from others (expecially BoB), because they were NOT the typical "elite hard core guild" of EQ / WoW memory and basically most of them did not even care to join fleets and lived an happy & casual life.
Suddenly it looks like you became super-committed, with giant cogs to keep oiled and make run at all costs else people will mass quit.
That reeks of BoB-itis to me. Are you telling me you got BoB-itis disease? Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

Alp Khan wrote: Goons can and certainly will, as Goons have numbers (that they can now concentrate in the best regions they would like to hold) and resources.
Smaller guys and lesser entities? Not so much. They will realize that accumulating the few numbers and lesser amount of resources into a larger entity is the only way that they can operate competitively and reasonably in null.
End result? Power blocs and stagnation.
What were we trying to end again?
It's years that the game is stagnating witih the current rules.
All complain the game is stagnating and CCP want to throw a giant boulder in the tranquil lake and see what happens.
Leaving the game as is, EvE stays stagnant for sure. Going out to the wild MAY fail to change anything but MAY also work.
Which of the two approaches is more practical? Stay as is as you say and sit in a stagnant ethernity or at least try doing something? Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

Might sound odd, but we stayed for years with just regular industrial ships (that is, without even a normal freighter) and somehow people still went to null.
What happened? That having difficult logistics easily causes isulation and fragmentation which lead to a number of small entities. Those small entities are ever changing and figthing for the better lands and this brings back classic EvE.
No more 3 trillions battles once a year, that cause TiDi but thousands of smaller and more enjoyable fights. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

As a goon please HTFU and by the way I hear BoB may be reforming. Watching your to organization slap fight was the most fun I have ever had.
Finally someone I recognize!
I was there (and proud of it!) when they were slapping fights.
I was in an awesome low / null / FW corporation with around 200 pilots. We made our life everywhere, our freigthers supply caravans through low and null were epic, we had Hulk fleets mining close to or inside null-sec and we'd do L4 missions in null sec, harvested moons, sieged bases with what once would have been a large force (20 "puny, normal" carriers and a pair of dreads).
EvE by then was the most freaking fun, awesome, "I just lost 10 life years by how much my heart pumped when we 10 got jumped by 50 guys at the gate AND LIVED TO TELL" game that could ever be created.
I quit shortly after we joined a "powerbloc" and what we'd do every day was:
- log in in station / POS / whatever - be notified we had a CTA at 2.30 am. BE THERE OR KICK. - go to CTA, bash an empty tower for 4 hours. Drops: 100 fusion S ammo. - go defend some blue guys speaking Klingoln, including the fleet leader speaking in alien and we'd end lost all over the region.
Maybe this change will grandiously fail. But if it does not... fun might come back to EvE! Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

Neutron Dreams wrote: This doesn't become a rage quit for me, it just makes me consider a different manner of play. no tears, and just hopes that all the training to make it to 14. some odd light years being cut down to 5 light years (with skills!!) will receive some sort of thought and perhaps some reallocation of skill points, because the value of skill time trained to go 14+ light years certainly is not the same as to be able to go to 5.
I don't really see how this will help remove the stagnation from nullsec but here's to hoping
I have that trained as well. I don't feel spoiled. Why?
Because cut or uncut, it's still the maximum distance possible. That is, the relative advantage has been preserved.
Had it been something done at a loss (like they did for some tiericided ships) then you could really say you lost out. But here your superiority is still the same. The others will still have to train as much as you did AND unlike you, they will never enjoy a long period of time when it was worth 14+ light years. Johanness wrote:It seems to me that the idea of a fatigue timer, specially for subcaps, cuts down on the fun factor for the game as waiting is not fun (obviously), it promotes unplayability.
For me too.
Imo the proposed changes show CCP has understood what they have to do, but not exactly how.
But of course this thread is CCP's way to ask us what we think and to propose ideas.
Instead of 300 pages of tears and swearing, imagine if there were 300 pages of suggestions about how to avoid this annoying cooldown and still enforce the changes.
In example, CCP could ask themselves: "screw it with the exponential formulas. What's the minimum amount of time necessary to neuter force projection?"
Because I don't believe for an instant that the current scaling up is any way "fun enough to still keep my supercap" (= prison = 1 dedicated account just for that).
There HAS to be a way to communicate players: "you are not going to be able to insta-jump everywhere but your ship and pilot investment is still worthwhile".
Goons and others HAVE some of the brightest minds in this game, I am sure they could suggest something good. Not because they love this CCP move, but because being forced to pick between the bitter pill and the huge cucumber in the ass. If these changes are implemented, and turn out to be as bad as I think they are, I'm sure you'll find a lot of people un-subbing their accounts. I love capital ship warfare, but with these changes, we are highly unlikely to ever see any good capital fights. Hopefully the last 8.5 years I've spent playing wasn't for nothing! I'd hate to see CCP do something this stupid and ruin this game. You know whats funny? I browsed several web sites and forums populated by bitter vets of eve, people who left the game because of the cesspool it had become, after hearing about the changes excitement among those also long term players, some from 2003/2004 even, ran high. The general consensus was that if these changes would come through they would definitely re-sub to see at least how it plays out.
Not just 2004. I was too busy triumphing in other MMOs at the time and did not even search for something like EvE (my damn BAD ).
But in 2008 I did find EvE and - as avid PvP player - I immediately searched for a corp that would accept a 2 weeks old player who couldn't even fit a Rifter even using a MAPC .
Followed months and months of some of the most fun I ever had in a game. And strong emotions! Like when - in full Minmatar FW I turned the wrong way at Amamake with my BC and ended in Amarr system. I got chased by so many guys I still recall it today!
THAT'S EVE.
Then powerbloc happened, and my corp went to die in it, in it's hideous middle-of-the-night CTAs where the biggest diversity was pressing F2 instead of F1 when told.
If EvE returns being the EvE I loved I am going to resub my other 5 accounts and pew pew will be had! Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

gascanu wrote: i wonder how long that excitement will last when they realize that basically nothing will change; oh yea, maybe two-three bits of space will crumble from the large coallitons,
"bits" large enough to fit a small alliance, which would be happy as is.
gascanu wrote: but that's it; you guys keep talking about how the big blocks won't be able to defend themself on multiple fronts... defend themself from who???
Who would bother attacking head on powerblocks? Powerblocks will have to re-focus and proably leave out portions of unused territory without anyone having to bother attacking them at their super-defended "core".
gascanu wrote: it's not like this change will bring 2-3 strong alliances out of thin air that will start attacking cfc or nc. or pl.
EvE used to be a galaxy of small and medium alliances bound to their limited territory. I am not even sure in the beginning there will be somebody caring to "get strong and attack cfc, nc or pl".
gascanu wrote: the large blocks will turtle down even more, at least as long as their HUGE income it's not affected; oh, they will lose a moon or two in low sec, but that's about it; so really, i see allot of ppl posting here with some kind of "wild-wild west fever" about how after patch day there will be 0.0 space for everyone, you just need to reach your hand and grab it...really, grow up guys, 2004 eve it's gone and not coming back; and yea, all this excitement is nice but it will last till you'll get 2-3 times a full cap fleet in the face to realize that you need allot more things beside enthusiasm so you can beat cfc.or nc.
Yeah, i hear you. "All is pointless, let's sit down and suck our thumbs while EvE declines, do nothing because nothing will change".
I have news for you: doing nothing is asphyxiating EvE. Therefore sitting down and waiting is not going to work.
